Today we helped set up the new garden at the Charles A. Melton Arts and Education Center! I don’t know if you know this, but we live in a food desert and it is impossible to safely walk to a grocery store from anywhere in town.
Over 26% of our residents live in poverty, many in the second ward. So, it’s great that The Center is providing a space for fresh produce for members of our community who face food insecurity every day. This goes along with the 15,000 meals that Filet of Soul has distributed over the last year.
This beautiful space will also serve as an outdoor classroom. The New Directions students will be managing the garden beds. There will also be a butterfly garden and plenty of spots to read or admire the views.
