Our environment is a precious and fragile thing. Thankfully, we here in West Chester have long taken our responsibility seriously. I plan on continuing the great work of my predecessors and promise to work to uphold the commitment of getting to 100% renewable energy by 2035 and 100% renewable energy for heat and transportation by 2050. This kind of long-term planning is essential if we want to tackle climate change and build a brighter future for our children.
Two specific long term projects I am looking into:
- Solar Farm at the Wyeth Property
- At current rates, a farm of that area could provide about 5% of our local power. However, if we work on reducing the power we need, the efficiency of the panels will increase as technology advances so I expect that rate will increase in the future.
- Reestablishing a rail line to West Chester
- Ever since I was a reporter covering this years ago, I have been a huge supporter of this project. It would reduce emissions, decongest roadways and bring people into town that will help our economy. I understand that this will take a lot of work and coordination, but I think it is something our residents want and I know it will help the borough in the long run.
